…take a look at the PRB (percentage of rivals beaten column) – apart from a blip with the 22-28 days period, the more recent the outing, the higher the figure. Lumping together all handicap runners who had raced in the past 21 days produced the following results…

…41 winners from 309 bets (13.27% strike-rate) for a profit of £20.20 to a £1 level stake at SP (+6.54% on turnover). At Betfair SP the profit was £107.72 after 2% commission (+34.86%).

Another all-weather angle at this time of year is to avoid runners drawn very low, as the inside rail can often ride ‘dead’. Time prevents me from, going into more detail about this but watch the replays from Chelmsford on Friday January 2^nd and Southwell on Tuesday January 6^th for the best recent examples.
